Competition Regulations
Registration Instructions
1. Through the online registration form, confirm that (1) all necessary
information is filled, and (2) payment transaction is successful.
Applicants will receive an email confirmation after the registration has
been processed by the organizer.
2. All contestants must register under their current 2024-2025 academic enrollment. Registration is permitted for music majors and non-music majors. Applicants may choose to compete in a higher class, but may not compete in a lower class. The organization values integrity and has the right to forfeit violators.
3. Repertoire information should be provided in complete titles, in Mandarin or the original language of the piece. Submitted repertoire will be reviewed, and necessary modifications will be made by the organizer
without affecting contestants’ scores or results.
4. If contestants wish to forfeit their application after registration, a refund may be issued if applied before July 7th. A non-refundable processing fee of $200 NTD will be deducted from your cancellation. Refunds will not be issued after July 8th.
5. The organization utilizes a third-party online payment system provided by ECPay Green World FinTech Service Co., Ltd. Please be advised that
ECPay will never contact applicants via phone or SMS to request personal information, ATM operations, or transaction details. If you receive any suspicious requests, kindly contact our organization immediately.
6. All complaints or disputes to the rules and regulations of the competition will be handled by the Taipei District Court. The official competition guidelines, fan page, and website announcements constitute the legal basis for the competition. The organization reserves the adjudicative power to modify regulations under uncontrollable circumstances.
Solo Competition Guidelines
1. The order of contestants will be randomly selected by a computer system, and announced on our website two weeks prior to the competition (July 14th). Rearrangements are non-negotiable.
2. Please arrive at the venue 30 minutes before the competition and check in with your student ID card, health insurance card, or national ID card. Each contestant will be announced on stage for their turn. Failure to be prompt after three announcements will lead to disqualification.
3. The repertoire requirement is a composition of the contestant’s choice.
Pieces must be played by memory, without repeats. Contestants are
responsible for necessary accompaniment, though accompanimental parts will not be included in the adjudication process.
4. Contestants will be timed from the start of their first note on stage,
including tuning. Each performance is limited to a maximum of 4 minutes. Taking excessive time to prepare or tune instruments will result
in point deduction.
5. Repertoire changes cannot be made after registration. No adjudications will be given if pieces differ from the registered repertoire.
6. The venue will provide a grand piano and bench. Contestants are
responsible for bringing and setting up any additional equipment, such as
pedal extenders, chairs, and anti-slip mats, to ensure the quality of their
performance.
7. Contestants with accompanists or assistants must arrive and leave the
venue together. If an accompanying individual must leave in advance
under special circumstances, please inform on-site personnel. Any
interference to performances caused by entering and exiting will lead to
point deduction or disqualification.
8. Photography and video recording are permitted; however, flash
photography is strictly prohibited. The organization photographs and
video records the entirety of the competition for event purposes.
Photographs and videos taken by the organization will not be available
for request. The organization holds portrait rights — including the use of
names, text, audio, video, and other materials — for promotional
purposes, free of charge.
9. In the unexpected event of a natural disaster, pandemic, etc. the
competition will be postponed or held online. Please refer to our website
for announcements and notifications.
Adjudication and Awards
1. The competition invites renowned musicians and members of music
departments, who hold international standards to be part of the
adjudication panel. A panel of 7 judges will be appointed for 30 or more
contestants. A panel of 5 judges will be appointed for 20 to 29
contestants, and a panel of 3 judges will be appointed for fewer than 20
contestants.
2. For a panel of 5 or 7 judges, the final score will be determined by
calculating the trimmed mean. For a panel of 3 judges, the final score will
be calculated by averaging the total score. Performances that do not meet minimum standards will be withheld from ranking. In the event of a tie, ranking will be determined based on the total sum of the contestants’
scores.
3. All results are final and cannot be disputed.
4. Results will be announced at the end of each competition. Individual
scores and comments can be collected at the registration desk after
finalization. Results cannot be sent by mail or inquired separately.
5. Contestants will receive a certificate of participation, and a thank-you
letter for their instructor. First, second, and third prize winners will also
be awarded a trophy. Contestants who are unable to receive their awards
in person must complete shipping arrangements at the registration desk
(subject to an additional fee), or contact the organization to arrange for
pickup before August 29th. Requests made after this date will not be
accepted.
6. Individual notifications will be sent to the prize winners’ schools for
further acknowledgements after results have been finalized.
7. First prize winners for each division will be invited to perform at the One & Only Competition Gala Concert, provided that the division has a minimum of five contestants and the first prize winner achieves a final score of 88 points or higher. If the first prize winner is unable to attend, the contestant with the next highest rank will be invited to perform. Performers must submit a biography and photo for the concert programme before August 8th.
8. Gala concert repertoire must match the repertoire played in the
competition. No changes are permitted. However, minor adjustments to
the program length may be made at the organizer’s discretion, if deemed
necessary.
9. The Only & Only Competition Gala Concert will be a ticketed event, held at the Eslite Performance Hall. The venue will be equipped with
professional multi-camera recording*, concert posters, programmes, and
marketing collateral. Performers are required to submit a payment of
$3,600 NTD, which covers four tickets (valued at $800 NTD each) and a video file of the performance. Additional photo files can be purchased for $400 NTD.
*The organization photographs and video records the entirety of the competition for event purposes. Photographs and videos taken by the organization will not be available for request. The organization holds portrait rights — including names, text, audio, video, etc. — for promotional purposes and materials, free of charge.
